Madilyn Weatherly was named the Conference’s Player of the Year, Dalilah Barrera was named Pitcher of the Year, Lindsey Taylor was named Designated Player of the Year and Skye Koehl was named Utility Player of the Year. Coach Kristen Zaleski also was named Co-Coach of the Year along with Leigh Ebner from Hill College.

Also named to the 2018 All-Conference Softball Team were pitcher Karina Sanchez, infielder Tiare Lee and outfielder Kennedy Jimenez. Catcher Kylie Mica was a Second Team All-Conference selection.

Weatherly, who is a first-year student from Brenham, Texas, plays first base for the Leopards. She had a season batting average of .484 with 32 RBIs. She was named the conference Player of the Week for the week ending April 7.

Barrera, who is a sophomore from Mercedes, Texas, had an 18-1 season for the Leopards with an ERA of 0.80. She was named the conference Pitcher of the Week three times this season.

Taylor, a sophomore from Nederland, Texas, plays shortstop and third base for the Leopards. She had a season batting average of .409 with 48 RBIs. She was named the conference Player of the Week for the week ending March 31.

Koehl, a sophomore from Columbus, Texas, plays second base and shortstop for the Leopards. She had a season batting average of .405 with 24 runs and 20 RBIs.

Zaleski has been coaching the team since 2010. This is the second time she has been named Coach of the Year. She previously received the award for the 2015-16 season.

The softball team finished its season with a 39-6 record and earned a spot in the NJCAA Region V Tournament, which will be held in McKinney May 5-6.
