Leopard Tales

Temple College has received a grant to continue digitization of some of its historical materials.

The grant will cover $1,000 worth of digitization services provided by the University of North Texas Libraries’ Digital Projects Unit. The same unit will also host the materials on the Portal to Texas History website.

This is the second grant Temple College has received to digitize materials as part of the Rescuing Texas History project. An earlier grant helped fund digitization of the college yearbook known as the Templar, which was published between 1927 and 1980, and early issues of Leopard Tales, a college newspaper that was published from 1946 to 1985. All the digitized materials can be found at https://texashistory.unt.edu/explore/partners/HMDTC/.

Carrie Cruce, director of learning resources, said the new grant will enable the college to complete digitization of the Leopard Tales. The grant application was written and submitted by Library Coordinator Tami Lam.

The Temple College online history collection currently contains 60 yearbooks and 153 newspapers. The digitized publications have been viewed nearly 6,000 times since the collection went online in 2018.
