A grant from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board will enable the Nursing program to purchase five additional patient simulators such as this one.The Temple College Nursing program has received a $119,171 grant from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to purchase additional simulation equipment. The grant was awarded as part of an effort to help offset the impact of COVID-19 on workforce training.

The Nursing program will use the funding to purchase five additional patient simulators, an additional bed for a patient simulator, plus software and laptops to run the simulators.

The funding also will enable the program to purchase additional equipment to teach catheterization, IV infusions, and proper acquisition of medications.

“Receiving these Nursing Innovation Grant funds will allow us to accommodate social distancing requirements and the growth in our Associate Degree Nursing program,” said Tracey Cooper, executive director of nursing. Cooper said the new simulators will be placed in a classroom that will serve as an extension of the Simulation Lab in order to allow more student access.

Temple College is in the final year of an initiative designed to double the number of students in its Associate Degree Nursing program. The program now starts two new classes each year. For more information, visit www.templejc.edu/nursing.
