Students can enroll in new Basic Health Professions course beginning this spring, summer

From nursing and EMT to polysomnography and dental hygiene, Temple College offers students numerous health care degree and certificate programs that can lead to lifelong careers. Sometimes, though, students don’t always know which health care career fits them best.

That’s why Temple College created the new Basic Health Professions Skills Course (HPRS 1304). It’s designed to introduce students to the various fields so they can make more informed decisions as they move forward toward their careers.

“Students who are interested in health care, but aren’t really sure which specific discipline to enter, will be excited about the new HPRS 1304 Basic Health Profession Skills course being offered this spring,” said Tracey Cooper, MSN, RN, CNE, Temple College’s Division Director of Health Professions. “They will be able to learn entry level skills as well as explore the health profession programs that Temple College has to offer. This will give them a foundation to build on when they decide on a health care career pathway.”

The first HPRS 1304 class is offered this spring during the College’s second 8-week course schedule, which begins March 20 and ends May 12. For students who are interested in the College’s new Polysomnography (sleep technologist) program, which launches in the fall, HPRS 1304 is a pre-requisite that must be taken this spring or summer.

“For high school students who graduate this spring and are interested in health care, this is a great course for them to take in the summer,” Cooper said. “They can take the course and have a better understanding of what’s offered, what’s required and how they should proceed.”

At Temple College, students can earn an Associate of Applied Science degree (A.A.S) in six fields: Dental Hygiene, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Emergency Medical Services, Nursing, Respiratory Care and Surgical Technology.

The College also offers a Vocational Nursing certificate program in Temple, and EMT-Intermediate and Paramedic certificate programs in Temple and Hutto. Advanced Technical Certificates in Diagnostic Medical Sonography and Vascular Sonography are available in Temple.

Temple College also offers a number of certificate programs through its Business and Continuing Education department, including Certified Nurse Aid, Clinical Medical Assistant, EKG Technician, Phlebotomy Technician, Pharmacy Technician and more.

Current Temple College students who are interested in the new course should contact the College’s Advising Office.
