The Temple College Jazz Ensemble will perform its fall concert at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Mary Alice Marshall Performing Arts Center (PAC) auditorium.
The Temple College Jazz Ensemble will perform selections composed and/or arranged by top jazz composers such as Horace Silver, George Stone, Tom Kubis and Matt Catingub.
The Jazz Ensemble is excited to share the concert with the award-winning Temple High School Highlighters, the premiere jazz ensemble at Temple High School.
Under the direction of Marcos Duran, The Highlighters regularly perform at community functions and festivals throughout the state of Texas, and have been featured on national stages such as the Jazz Education Network Annual Conference, Essentially Ellington, Swing Central Jazz Festival, Basically Basie, National Jazz Honors Project and the Charles Mingus Festival.
The Highlighters will play a variety of big band styles, ranging from Count Basie-style swing to modern arrangements of jazz standards. Some of the featured composers/arrangers will include Duke Ellington, Sammy Nestico, Thad Jones, Charles Mingus and Neal Hefti.
General admission is $5 and free to any student. Tickets can be purchased online or in person at the PAC.
