Temple College’s Division of Fine Arts will host two concerts next week. The Jazz Combos Concert is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. May 2. The Temple College/Texas A&M University-Central Texas Saxophone Quintet Concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. May 3. Both concerts will be performed in the College’s Graeter-Jackson Backstage Theater in the Mary Alice Marshall Performing Arts Center.

Jazz Combos

Under the direction of Dr. Benjamin Irom and James Suter, the Temple College Jazz Combos will perform at 12:30 p.m. May 2 in the Graeter-Jackson Backstage Theater in the Mary Alice Marshall Performing Arts Center. The concert is free and open to the public.

The combos will perform pieces by Wayne Shorter, Sonny Rollins, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Charlie Parker, Lee Morgan, Chick Webb and Benny Goodman, Roy Hargrove and a new composition by TC student Spencer Messerich. 

The “Thursday Combo,” under Irom’s direction, includes Eliezer Ortiz, trumpet (Harker Heights); Spencer Messerich, guitar (Killeen); Eric Lara, guitar (Temple); Martin Fernandez, piano (Austin); Ian Smith, bass (Houston); and Nathan Spence, drums (Hutto). 

The “Tuesday Combo,” under Suter’s direction, includes Eliezer Ortiz, trumpet (Harker Heights); Jonking Orozco, trumpet (San Antonio); Jackson Holt, vibraphone (Belton); Spencer Messerich, guitar (Killeen); Alex Buss, bass (Harker Heights); Evan Griffith, bass (Minden, Louisiana); and Aidan Amling, drums (Hutto).

Saxophone Quintet

The Temple College/Texas A&M University-Central Texas Saxophone Quintet will perform a concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 3. The concert will be held in the Graeter-Jackson Backstage Theater in the Mary Alice Marshall Performing Arts Center. The concert is free and open to the public. In addition, a guest appearance by the Consone Trio will perform “Birds: Trio for Piccolo, Flute, and Bb Clarinet.” Members of Consone are Sydney Orlowski, Denisse Thomssen and Leo Rivera Chen.

Selections to be performed by the Saxophone Quintet include compositions by Fauré, Richard Percival, and originals by two of the members, Adrian Gomez and Nicolas Trujillo-Castelblanco.
