The Temple College/Texas A&M University-Central Texas Symphonic Band will present “Journeys and Voyages” at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 16 in the Mary Alice Marshall Performing Arts Center on the Temple College campus.
The program will feature music that takes the audience traveling by way of land, sea and air.
John Philip Sousa’s “Sabre and Spurs” march will emulate the cavalry parading on their horses. “Of Sailors and Whales” by W. Francis McBeth takes the audience onto a nautical voyage depicting scenes from the novel, “Moby Dick.” The audience will also find itself traversing the country by way of “Route 66.” Other selections include works by Holst, Healey, Standridge and, in keeping with the upcoming Holiday season, “Sleigh Ride” by Leroy Anderson.”
The ensemble features college students from Texas A&M University-Central Texas (TAMUCT) and Temple College, some high school students, professional musicians and adults who love playing their instruments.
This 80-member band is dedicated to creating musical excellence while enjoying performing music and camaraderie of playing in a band. Members of the Temple College Symphonic Band are from Temple, Belton, Houston, Harker Heights, Killeen, Copperas Cove, Rogers, Holland, Thorndale, Hewitt, Waco, Salado, Georgetown and Austin.
The symphonic band is conducted by Dr. Glen Alan Brumbach, Assistant Professor of Music at Texas A&M - Central Texas, where he teaches applied trumpet, music history, conducting, music education classes and brass methods classes. He also serves as Temple College’s applied trumpet instructor.
This concert will appeal to all ages. Cost for the concert is $5 for adults and free for students and children.
