Temple College’s Department of Visual Arts is launching its new exhibit “Winter’s Silence,” featuring the work of Central Texas artist Stephanie Chambers, with a grand opening from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at the Temple College Visual Arts Gallery.
The exhibit will run through March 7.
Chambers, who serves as chair of the Art Department at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, graduated from Temple College in 2005 with her Associate of Arts degree.
Chambers creates paintings and drawings that question our relationship to nature through investigating the dynamics of the landscape. Often working on-site in nontraditional settings, she explores the mental, physical and spiritual connections between humans and the earth.
Chambers actively participates in Foundations in Art and Theory (F.A.T.E.), Oil Painters of America, Central Texas Art League and the Cultural Activities Center where is she is currently serving on the board. She actively exhibits her work both nationally and internationally in juried exhibitions and print publications.
Chambers earned her Master of Fine Arts in painting from Northern Illinois University in 2014. Prior to that, she studied painting and printmaking at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, where she earned a Master of Arts in 2011 and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2008.
She began teaching university level courses upon graduation in 2014 and became an Assistant Professor at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in 2019 where she currently teaches and serves as the Chair for the Art Department.
