The Texas Success Center named Temple College as the recipient of its 2023 Recognition of Dedication to Educational Outcomes (RODEO) Award.
The Texas Success Center, a member of the national Student Success Center Network, designs and manages the coherent, statewide framework for action and supports the 50 community college districts in the state as they evaluate, align and integrate their work to increase student success through Texas Pathways.
Temple College was selected based on a series of factors, including:
- CEO leadership and support of the guided pathways work at the College
- Institutional commitment to contribute to the learning network of Texas colleges
- Demonstration of remarkable success and growth in early momentum metrics that research has shown best positions students for future credential completion and transfer to a 4-year institution
“We feel excited to receive this great honor from The Texas Success Center,” said Dr. Christy Ponce, President of Temple College. “We feel this recognition reflects the dedication of our faculty and staff who have worked tirelessly to create an environment of success for our students and position the College – and the Central Texas region overall – for continued advancements in higher education. They do everything possible to help students earn a college degree and certifications so they can enter the workforce, upskill into a higher-level role and earn the credentials they need and continue learning through advanced degrees.
“As our region continues to grow economically and in population, Temple College is committed to creating strategic pathways that guide and prepare our thousands of students to move into the workplace or take the next steps in their educational journeys by transferring to four-year universities.”
According to The Texas Success Center, Temple College is among the top colleges in the state for having exemplar key performance indicator scores across eight early momentum metrics.
The Texas Success Center noted that Temple College “stands out among its peers” by demonstrating success for incoming students who earn 6+ credits in Term 1; earn 15 credits in Year 1; earn 30 credits in Year 1; and persist from Term 1 to Term 2.
Temple College has been engaged with the Texas Success Center’s semi-annual Pathways Institutes over the past year, sharing expertise and lessons learned on the topics of transformational leadership, dual credit pathways, professional development, and the implementation of the Caring Campus model at the college.
“We are proud of Dr. Susan Guzman-Treviño, also this year’s Texas Association of Community College’s Administrator of the Year, for leading those efforts for Temple College,” Ponce. “She has done a remarkable job getting everyone involved in making positive changes to advance student success.”
Temple College also has two institutional leaders participating as fellows in the Texas Success Center’s Leadership Academy, a one-year leadership development program designed to build a pipeline of mid-level leaders.
